Rural Idaho: Challenged to Change

November 8-9, 2001
Recital Hall, Langroise Center
Albertson College of Idaho
Caldwell, Idaho

How important is it that small rural communities survive? Are our public policies keeping pace with the changing rural economies? Everyone says they are concerned, but are we doing the right things to maintain the quality of life in our small communities?

On November 8-9, 2001, the Andrus Center for Public Policy tackled the daunting economic, social, political, and personal issues that present real survival challenges in the rural west.

The Andrus Center collaborated with the Idaho Statesman, the Lewiston Tribune, the Idaho Falls Post Register, the Spokane Spokesman Review, Idaho Public Television, and KTVB Channel 7, who undertook a major series of reports on rural Idaho, to bring to this conference local and regional leaders and to try to grapple with the policies that are going to preserve—or not preserve —the rural lifestyle of the west.

Copies of the Conference Report and transcript are available now in a .pdf version. Click the links below to download.
