THE FUTURE OF OUR PUBLIC LANDS

February 11, 1998
The Grove Hotel
Boise, Idaho

There is no more contentious or important issue in the west today than how the federal government manages the land that we all own. The conflict over competing uses and competing visions for public land management has become a daily fact of life in the west.

In February of 1998, the Andrus Center held the first of two conferences on Federal land policy. The principal speakers throughout the one-day gathering were the directors of the Forest Service, the Bureau of Land management, and the National Park Service: Mike Dombeck, Pat Shea, and Bob Stanton.

From that first conference, a series of issues and goals emerged and were summarized in a conference report. Both the conference report and a transcript of the entire day are available in printed form from the Andrus Center or click the link below to download a .pdf version.
