Elizabeth Duncan, news director for Boise State Radio, will be part of a journalism/legal panel at an April 15 public affairs seminar titled “A Delicate Balance: Judges, Juries, Lawyers and Journalists.” The seminar is presented by the Andrus Center for Public Policy and the Idaho Press Club, in cooperation with the Idaho State Bar Association and the University of Idaho College of Law.

The American approach to justice embodied in the U.S. Constitution and influenced by more than two centuries of tradition and precedent is one of the fundamental strengths of the United States. The First Amendment to the Constitution guaranteeing freedom of the press is of equal importance to the American system.  From time-to-time, the rights inherent in the justice system come in conflict with the rights inherent in the First Amendment and judges, juries, lawyers and journalists find that they must carefully work to maintain “a delicate balance” of conflicting rights.
